Howard Miller is Big Chief of the Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indian tribe in New Orleans.  Mr. Miller, who has been masking Indian for over 50 years, is a well‐respected elder within the Mardi Gras Indian community who has spent many years mentoring younger members of his tribe and teaching them how to sew.  The role of a Big Chief is to lead and command the tribe.  Additionally, a Chief strives to achieve the most prominent and beautiful presence on Mardi Gras morning.
